You won’t sell it if someone can smell it. I tell that to clients all the time. Get thee to the Yankee Candle store or to a shop that sells Yankee brand candles and burn the Home Sweet Home sent which envelops the house in a pleasant, warm and familiar scent. Leave the top off after you extinguish to candle because the aroma will spread throughout the kitchen even when not lit.
Fancy up to bathrooms and kitchen first. You don’t need to bring in heavy furniture. Dress up the bathrooms with candles and decorative soaps and use white towels (so no one else will use them) or tie them in a haystack with some braided ties. The idea is you do not want anyone using them. Don’t forget to swish some shampoo down the drain, the scent will also linger like someone took a shower.
Don’t throw away empty food boxes, place them in the pantry and on kitchen cupboard shelves. Set an idea – add an inexpensive coffee pot and sent the kitchen counter with several place settings to create a lived-in look.
Recently at our national convention one of the exhibitors was a local art gallery and they will hold art showings in a vacant home. You never know when someone who attends a showing may also be looking to buy a house. Art can show a house off beautifully.
Or you can host a party for a local charity such as a women’s shelter or hospice. Another thing I say all the time is this:
“You only need one buyer” and when you open up the doors to different ways to show your vacant house you may be opening the door to that one buyer.
